A lovely late Victorian silver plated breakfast muffin warmer. It is of clamshell form with twin drop down pans and wreath type handles. The frame is cast with decorative details including harebells. The interior reveals pierced plates and gilding to the clamshells. To the underside of the frame there is a patent number and internally it is marked EP 5207 and a rather difficult to make out mark which is for James Dixon, the famous silver smiths from Sheffield.
Very good for period, the best example I have come across. Exterior good with minor wear, no obvious rub through of the plate. Interior remarkably clean, some oxidisation spots to the gilt, but the plates almost look like new.
