A late 19th century Arts & Crafts style carved oak box. All four sides and the lid are carved and interestingly the panel at the back is of a different design. Boxes were often fashioned from earlier wood during this period and it is perfectly possible this item also repurposes panels from an earlier piece of furniture. It has hand cut dovetail jointing and it is likely thie item was made by a craftsman or amateur rather than being commercially manufactured. There is a brass loc (not working) and key with tassel. The interior is lined with (now aged) red fabric and this may well be original.
Wear, various knocks etc and some pieces missing at the edges as typical for a well used domestic piece. Fabric to base and interior worn. Lock non functional, key for decorative purposes only.
